When....

How often do we wait for something to pass or wait for something to come? We long for love, relationship, financial relief, or any number of tangible and intangible treasures. Along the while, rather while we wait, there’s a lack of attention on what’s happening around us and happening in us right now. We put happiness on a shelf as we wait for the fulfillment of the longing.
Isn’t that a strange way to pass the time? We work and we play, but the deepest longing we may have is still on that “yet to pass” mantle. Thoughts like, “I’ll be happy when ....” You fill in the blank. I know I can fill in multiple blanks.
I had a great talk with a family member about our misplaced vision. We know there are problems, even blockades in front of our desires. Yet for people of faith, we’re called to yield our paths to God’s calling and God’s timing. Yikes! That’s hard if our focus is off. Prayer, study, and fellowship bring us back to a meaningful perspective.
I do believe that one of the marks of an optimist is to look forward to events and accomplishments. I believe we can invest in prayers for one another and look forward to the answers. It can be discouraging when the wait is long and the path is hard. I pray that this little post from the heart will awaken the beauty of now, especially in the waiting. Focus on the today, now, not the when. I’ll try, will you?
