Absent but not Away

Hello Hatters,

It’s been a few weeks since I have written, but I’m just absent from social media periodically to work and to care for Country Hubby. I am not away, nor do I wish to be away from writing, but the needs of the one, sometimes outweigh the needs of the many (thank you to Star Trek for that quote.) I have found comfort in a small book named Sunday Punday. It is a collection of short messages with cute illustrations. The one from this morning is “You Otter Be Kidding Me” with a cute picture of an otter. I quote this short message:

"It may sound like an otterly adorable myth, but it's true - otters hold hands when they sleep. Afloat on their backs, if one accidentally lets go, the other will grab back on so as not to let each other drift apart. If you've seen otters when they're awake, this may surprise you a bit.  These carefree critters are known for their playfulness, their lightness, their flitting about. But when they're finally settled in and calmed down, otters instinctively know it's time to hang on for safety. They immediately seek out their closest friends - other lighthearted souls.

Together, they form a solid raft of safety."

The message from the book, Sunday Punday, reminds me of the steadfastness of friends and family. So many people are suffering and shouldn’t we all be holding on tight to one another? Strife, sickness, isolation are common these days, but I want to ask that each of us reach out to someone today. Make a difference, dial up a friend, send a real letter, place a Face Time call. Don’t be “away.” Thank you, God, for this message from another writer to this writer who wears many hats. All of us wear many hats, but let’s be present... here... now. Who in your circle needs your touch?

Hugzzzzz,

MT Penny
