Hello Hatters,
I had an early morning wake up alert from my dog; she was barking, mildly alarmed at something. We’re talking 5:15 AM, not my desired wake up time. I was hoping she would stop barking, but it just seemed like something was really off. So I drug myself out of bed, went to the kitchen, and heard a weird clicking noise. It was not a consistent sound and I isolated it to my oven. Great?!?!!!
I had a weird incidence happen with a different oven in the past, so I went to get dressed. I got my shoes on just in case I had to call the fire department. (I can’t tell you why these things pop into my brain, but that’s what happened). And, I brushed my hair because one look in the mirror and I saw a resemblance to Phyllis Diller in the reflection. If you’re not familiar with this reference, look at the pictures.
I went back to the kitchen to start the investigate of the sound in my oven. It was the oddest metallic sound. I unloaded the spices. I unloaded the bottom tray of baking pans. I pulled out the oven from the wall and unplugged it. When the sound stopped, I was really puzzled. Then all of a sudden, I heard it again. I went to the right side of the oven and there was a 3/4” long bug. I looked it up. It’s called a click beetle. It pops up in the air to move. So it was popping up against the bottom of my oven to try and escape. It is now a very dead click beetle at the bottom of my trashcan. This city chick asks, “How did a click beetle get in my kitchen and underneath my oven?”
But you see, once you pull out any appliance, you know there’s gonna be a mess. Then, you’re ALL IN, as in … you’re committed to sweeping, cleaning, scrubbing, suctioning out corners, and disinfecting. Disgusting!
As a writer, who wears many hats just like you, weird stuff just happens. You can’t make this stuff up! I share the journey and look for an analogy for life. Sorry, no lesson or inspiration here, just a good laugh. If you think of something about a click beetle underneath my oven, let me know.
