Melody or Harmony?

Good morning, Hatters.
Don't you just love music and the way it can transform a moment. At an early age, I took piano lessons and sang in choirs. When you can read music at a young age like me, it often lands you in the alto section. Still, I grew to love the harmony of music. Its richness brings dimension to sounds and allows melodies to grow even sweeter.
In reflection, I find that much of my life has been in a supporting role. I'm good in the details and behind the stages. Spotlight was not a desire for me; I just wanted to be part of the scene. A friend asked me if I wanted to sing in the church cantata this year. YES! My heart always wants to sing. They need altos, I hear. Interesting that there's always a demand for altos. I've understood that need for all of my musical life.
Is there a correlation to altos being supporting roles and the need for less spotlight and more backup? I'll share with you that when I was a teenager, my all time favorite voice was from Karen Carpenter. Her sound was so unique and so versatile. In truth, my idea of a perfect career was to be a backup singer to Karen Carpenter. Actually, don't tell anyone but have a secret life where that career actually became a reality (in the privacy of my own home and car; sing it, baby!). Any salt or pepper shaker or hair brush can quickly become a microphone and transform the living space into a stage. I backup Karen and many other performers at any given time.
That's me. How about you?
Music is therapy to a hurting soul, a pump up when you need to be fired up, and a soothing beauty when there's too much noise. My encouragement for you today is be a singer, lead or backup. Even if you don't think you can carry a tune, SING! Sing it, baby. Express it. Live it. Be yourself. Melody or harmony? Be a true you! Let your music bring dimensions to this life that enriches your journey and those around you.
Hugzzzzzzzzzzzzzz,
MT
As always, beautiful words. 💕💖💟
