Hello Hatters,

On my drive home a few days ago, I noticed birds on a wire as I waited for the light to turn green. They were struggling to stay level and I was amazed that their tails were moving at the same time. I wondered if the wind was affecting their stance. Sure enough, nearby tree branches were also swaying.

The light changed and I moved along with the traffic, but my mind was left behind with the birds and their balancing acts. Now before I get myself in trouble, my mind has not “gone to the birds.“ In fact, I am pretty sure I was more intrigued by the wire, the wind, and the movement. The details captured my curiosity.

For instance, why do birds gather together on a wire that sways in the wind? Their balancing act alone was entertaining enough. I have no answers for the birds’ behaviors but it makes me smile when I discover a new view or perspective. I find these nuggets in the oddest places. Nature reminds me that balance is important in life.

Yesterday, a car nearly ran into the back of my car and I had the space to move over and let the careless speeder race on and treat the next car the same. Honestly, the rushing driver made me grateful that I was able to navigate safely to my own destination. Another nugget was gathered but this time from someone else’s foolishness.

Today, the sky revealed the white tail of a lone military jet high above me. Had I not looked up, I would have surely missed it. I had my tunes blaring so I didn’t hear it either. I enjoyed watching the jet tail dissipate as it continued on its journey or mission. While I know the sign of the passing jet won’t last long, I was glad to have noticed this rare sight. Another nugget.

Today, my hat is one of a prospector. I’m on the hunt for nuggets to treasure, lessons to learn and sights to see. Life is moving swiftly around me but I search for the beauty in the common bird, the lessons in a rushed driver, and short lived sighting of a jet’s tail.

Two times I have had the joy to hunt for crystals with actual prospecting tools. It was a lot of work and so hard on my back, but I had so much fun! With each bucket of red clay, there was no telling what would be found. It might just be rocks or it might reveal crystals. Back then, it was the excitement of what might be found in the next bucket. Lately, I’m happy to search my surroundings for my nuggets. I hope to keep this hat on for a long time.

Can I wear more than one hat at a time? You bet, I can! You’ll be hearing from me again soon. I write as one who wears many hats, just like you.

Hugzzzzzzz,

MT
