Hello Friends and Family,
Twenty-four years ago today, my husband’s life changed forever. His strong and healthy body was hurt in a work related accident. He had over eighteen procedures down through the years and that’s a whole lot of recovery time. While he stayed in some kind of treatment for those injuries until he died, the rest of the family also went through many phases of adjustment.
As he came to grips with his disabilities, not all of the shifts in life were negative. I resumed full time work and he became full time daddy and home keeper. I can remember one day as I helped him with the laundry. I was folding one of my daughter’s shirts and I put it in a pile. He quickly said, “Oh! That goes in the other pile.” He knew my kids’ clothes better than I did. It may seem like a small detail, but that is just how he cared for each of us in the home. He knew the favorites foods of each of us and took great pains to excel at this expanded role of chef. My favorite was when he baked the cowboy cookies, but that’s another story…. lol
Every task took much effort. He rested a lot. Things got done AND he just kept moving. We all marveled at the different gardens he maintained and we ate many a meal of fresh grown, organic vegetables. He built bird houses and large landscape timber flower planters. Did I mention that the man could fish? Wow, he went with friends as often as possible or took friends with him on the pontoon boat.
About four years after his accident, my parents came to live with us for the next 13 years and hubby helped them often. Needless to say, he was a busy man.
As I reflect on his endurance and resilience, I think about my aches and pains now which are nothing compared to his suffering. Am I handling them with grace? I recently told a friend, “I’m kind of young at this getting old business.” lol…
The biggest lesson he taught all of us was keep moving. He adjusted mentally and physically through many stages of his last years. I’m so grateful for his presence and strength while he was still here. His impact on so many people is a great example of how to selflessly walk in this world. There’s so much to learn from someone who walks with Jesus in the day to day. That was my honey.
As I finish this blog, I’ve been praying along side the movement of Gather25 that started yesterday for 25 hours. We all need Jesus. All seven continents have had a part to live streaming since yesterday, praying for revival and for those that will say, “Here am I. Send me!”
Information below.
“Gather25 is a global Christian conference that aims to mobilize 2.5 billion Jesus followers to share the Gospel to the 5.5 billion who have yet to know Him.”

I send prayers for you and your families and friends.
