Hello Hatters,
Have you ever ordered never-ending soup and salad at Olive Garden? It comes with endless breadsticks. Of course, our capacity to consume soup, salad, and breadsticks isn’t endless, so Olive Garden can safely offer these options without going bankrupt. I think about the phrase, “You can’t get enough of a good thing” and know that you can actually get enough of a good thing. Finding the right balance is the key.
Balance…. Now there’s a topic for which I can go off on a ramble. One aspect of balance is a never-ending notion to appraise what is enough and what is too much. Do some things in moderation, but not other things. For example, can we have reckless quantities of love, kindness, and forgiveness?
In my faith walk, the gifts of the spirit are available in unlimited quantities. Am I able to surrender to them and emulate them? That is the quest! But not in my own power, but by the grace of God, I will show love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, and self-control. These intangible gifts are meant to be shared.
Wouldn’t it be nice to witness endless amounts of kindness and infinite generosity? Can we slow down long enough to give patience and gentleness?
I love these kinds of questions because they challenge the status quo of routine. They lift up my spirit. Yet, it’s not enough to sit in the pondering. With God’s help, may I be found guilty of showing endless amounts of love, joy, and hope.
After all, our Creator is unlimited.
