Unlock the Door

Hello Hatters,

We lock houses, cars, offices and drawers. Our actions indicate a safe keeping of important items or treasured possessions. In my adult years, I’ve taken a liking to old skeleton keys. Boy if they could talk, what kind of secrets would be released?
In my house, I have a key that opens an antique buffet. I’ve had that buffet all the way back to post college “poor“ days. Those were the times when you needed experience and it was hard for that first employer to take a chance on a green, wet behind the ears, graduate. When I did land my first job away from home, I needed furniture for my apartment. I put $50 down on that old buffet.
Before long, I’d paid it off and made arrangements for pickup and delivery of that buffet to my new place. I didn’t actually use it for dishes; I put my folding clothes inside. It was a simpler time for sure. I had a couch, a bed, a TV and my buffet. A couple of months later, I bought a new rocker. Slowly, I added items to my apartment. Piece by piece, I increased my possessions that were kept safe behind my locked door.
I’m on a walk down memory lane and I’ve had to unlock some memories to get there. Perhaps there are other things that are under lock and key. Some of them are not so simple. Some are not so pleasant. There are hurtful experiences and feelings stuffed away that perhaps hold us back from being free to grow and prosper emotionally. Is it time to unlock that door and get it out? You might think that my hat today is locksmith but I’m the one with a hand on the door knob.
I'm on my own journey of exposing and letting go of hard things. I am the owner of the skeleton key who seeks peace and freedom. I am fortunate to have wonderful people who help me process my unlatched stuff in a safe environment.
Some of the openings have revealed other things that were not at all expected. I've opened the recollection of good things in and around the hard things. I guess it should not have surprised me, but it did. I'm grateful. Life is tough but if we don't dig out the hard things, we might miss some forgotten beauties. I invite you to search your locked doors, find the keys, and determine if there are things to process. Is there something that holds you back? I know it is not a one and done exercise. It takes time, just like building up the furniture in my first apartment. One piece at a time or unlocking one drawer at a time, progress is possible.
I'm on a journey of wearing many hats, just like you and lately, I've been unlocking things.
Hugzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz,
MT
