Who's in Your Ear?

Hello Hatters,

In one of my previous jobs, I got caught up in the drama of people. This person said one thing and another person said something else. It was not a healthy climate and I didn't stay very long with that employer. I was young and impulsive and fortunately, I found a new job in a positive environment. However, the lesson I learned from the drama of people has lasted my whole career. Who should I listen to? Who's in my ear? It is a vital question that should be answered by anyone who is serious about wise counsel.

Take a look at who is influencing you and your point of view. Are the voices in your ear bringing encouragement for growth? Are they pointing you to a place of discontentment or providing opportunities to fulfill your potential? It is so important to find the right people to let into your sphere, including your mind, your heart and your soul. I am fortunate to have what I call bosom buddies. They are at work and church and in professional groups for which I have memberships. We walk this crazy life together, complete with all of the ups and downs. Through it all, we encourage each other to achieve greater things and have healthier thought lives. I like sharing time with people with whom we can mutually boost each other up. I firmly believe that what you think, you are and what you put into your mind will drive your direction. So, “Who's in your ear?"

Insecurities have often crept up in my mind when I'm ready to finalize one of my posts. Is this message good enough? Have I done my best work? Does anyone care about what I have to say? This happened to me on one of my recent blog posts. At that moment, I was blessed to receive a text message from my sister who said she just loves to read my blog. Wow! What a sign! I was encouraged to keep up the calling I have to write. May I be up to the challenge and write my thoughts and share my soul.

I write as one who wears many hats and today I have a hat full of questions. Who is in your ear? Who is influencing you in a good way? Who is influencing you in a negative way? One thing you can count on from me is a challenge to look around in the physical world and in the world of your heart and mind and soul. Today, I’m reminding myself and you to allow yourself access to the right counsel, plus, it is so important to give others honesty.

Sometimes we see things differently than other and obviously, that's okay. For me, the ultimate counsel is found in my Book of Faith, The Word of God, The Bible. If I go there first, I'm going to find broken people who find love, acceptance and grace from a great, big God who created us, loves us, disciplines us and brings us into fellowship. I have been blessed with many whispers in my ear from Him and I long for the next message.

Hugzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz,

MT Penny
