Hello Hatters,

Watch for my Capitalizations as my words Collide.

Today, I'm a bit Chatty about listeners. What I mean to say is that some people really listen and some people are already tuning you out before you get started. Busy or uninterested? Perhaps, but doesn't it make you frustrated when you need to be heard?

Last December, I lost my mom. Those kinds of events are shattering. Death impacts so many things and a lot of relationships Changed in my family. At times, nothing makes sense and during the times when I Can talk about my grief, the sharing needs to be in a safe environment. Even if my thought processes are on walk about, I need a person or set of persons who really listen, who really Care. I need to be heard. Don't we all? We need to know that we matter and so do our thoughts. Whether we need to process a situation or some emotion, it is nice to know there is someone who will take the time to zip it and listen.... no hidden agenda and no half-listening while formulating a response.

I recently went to a support group facilitated by a woman who made a few good points and then opened the floor for Comments. A few people shared their journey and then in the middle of a woman's talk about her heartache, the facilitator just said, "Well, that's it for today. If I don't leave now, I'll be late for Karaoke."

What?!? I could not believe my ears. So much for Caring! Nothing warm and Cuddly about interruptions for Karaoke. Calloused, that's what it was.... just plain Calloused. I seriously did not understand how anyone could interrupt that hurting woman's raw talk. I wanted to Confront that behavior but the facilitator was gone. Literally, she was in her Car and she flew the Coup. The support group was Counter-productive for me, much less the wounded and interrupted woman. She also went inCognito quickly and why wouldn't she? Count her out! I left Conflicted and Challenged.

When you witness behaviors that infuriate you, it's best if you look in the mirror first. Right? I drove home and thought about my listening skills. Are my ears working? Is my heart and mind engaged? Do I Check out before it's time? Do I Contradict? Am I Combative when others are discussing or sharing? Wow! I don't want to be that person who leaves for Karaoke. So, Consider this Chat over and now I'm listening.
